Before the Passover Festival, Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved those who were his own in the world, he loved them to the end. (Jn 13:1)
2 The Lord looks down from heaven on all the children of Adam to see if there is anyone who understands, anyone who seeks God. 3 Every one of them has turned away. Altogether they have become rotten. There is no one who does good. There is not even one. (Ps 14:2–3)
God made him, who did not know sin, to become sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in him. (2 Co 5:21)
2. Jesus never came to be_____________ but to ___________.
By the time the supper took place, the Devil had already put the idea into the heart of Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. (Jn 13:2)
Jesus knew that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God. (Jn 13:3)
4 He got up from the supper and laid aside his outer garment. He took a towel and tied it around his waist. 5 Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. (Jn 13:4–5)
33 They came to Capernaum. When Jesus was in the house, he asked them, "What were you arguing about on the way?" 34 But they remained silent, because on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest. (Mk 9:33–34)
3. Peter still doesn't _______ it.
He came to Simon Peter, who asked him, "Lord, are you going to wash my feet?" (Jn 13:6) Go away from me, because I am a sinful man, Lord. (Lk 5:8b)
Jesus answered him, "You do not understand what I am doing now, but later you will understand." (Jn 13:7)
Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, 'May you receive mercy, Lord! This will never happen to you.'" (Mt 16:22)
Get behind me, Satan! You are a snare to me because you are not thinking the things of God, but the things of men. (Mt 16:23)
Peter told him, "You will never, ever, wash my feet!" Jesus replied, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with me." (Jn 13:8)
4. Jesus _____________ every sin away.
"Lord, not just my feet," Simon Peter replied, "but also my hands and my head!" (Jn 13:9)
Jesus told him, "A person who has had a bath needs only to wash his feet, but his body is completely clean. And you are clean." (Jn 13:10a)

_____________________—trust in God's promise to forgive you for Jesus' sake

_____________—you work with God's help to try and never repeat this sin
In fact, it is God who is working in you, both to will and to work, for the sake of his good pleasure. (Php 2:13)
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 Jn 1:9)
