The Lenten Museum – 30 Pieces of Silver

1.    Satan is always on the ___________.

3 Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, who was one of the Twelve. 4 He went away and spoke with the chief priests and officers of the temple guard about how he could betray Jesus to them. (Lk 22:3–4)
... 15 said, "What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?" They paid him thirty pieces of silver. 16 From that time on Judas was looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus. (Mt 26:15–16)
... many of his disciples turned back and were not walking with him anymore (Jn 6:66b)
68b Lord, to whom will we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God. (Jn 6:68b–69)
'70b Did I not choose you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!' 71 He meant Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, one of the Twelve, because Judas was going to betray Jesus. (Jn 6:70b–71)
'5 Why wasn't this perfume sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?' 6 He did not say this because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief. He held the money box and used to steal what was put into it. (Jn 12:5–6)
So from that day on they plotted to kill him. (Jn 11:53)
3 The chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas. 4 They plotted together how to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him. 5 But they said, 'Not during the Festival, or else there might be a riot among the people.' (Mt 26:3–5)

2.    The weight of _______ can crush the ___________.

Then when Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he felt remorse. He brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders. (Mt 27:3)

... and he said, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood." (Mt 27:4a)
But they said, "What is that to us? That's your problem." (Mt 27:4b)
He threw the pieces of silver into the temple and left. Then he went out and hanged himself. (Mt 27:5)

3.    Jesus pays all ___________.

24 He himself carried our sins in his body on the tree so that we would be dead to sins and alive to righteousness. By his wounds you were healed. 25 For you were like sheep going astray, but you are now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. (1 Pe 2:24–25)
