Exiles– Sojourners

10 After you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who called you into his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will himself restore, establish, strengthen, and support you. 11 To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen. 12 I have written to you briefly (through Silas, whom I consider a faithful brother), to encourage you and to testify that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it. (1 Pe 5:10–12)
  1. Turn from _______ and live a _________ life.

Therefore, after preparing your minds for action by exercising self-control, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed. (1 Pe 1:13)
4 into an inheritance that is undying, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. 5 Through faith you are being protected by God’s power for the salvation that is ready to be revealed at the end of time. (1 Pe 1:4–5)
14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 Rather, just as the one who called you is holy, so also be holy in everything you do. 16 For it is written, “Be holy, because I am holy.” (1 Pe 1:14–16)
Do not offer the members of your body to sin as tools of unrighteousness. Instead, offer yourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead, and offer the members of your body to God as tools of righteousness. (Ro 6:13)

  1. Christ _________________ you so that you ___________ live this way.

18 because you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, not with things that pass away, such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like a lamb without blemish or spot. (1 Pe 1:17–19)
1 In fact, the law is only a shadow of the good things to come, not the actual realization of those things. It will never be able to make perfect those who continually offer the same sacrifices year after year. 2 If it could do this, would they not have stopped bringing sacrifices, because the worshippers, once they were cleansed, would no longer have a bad conscience about sins? 3 Instead, these sacrifices reminded them of their sins year after year. 4 The fact is that the blood of bulls and goats cannot take away sins. (Heb 10:1–4)

And on the basis of faith in his name, it is the name of Jesus that has strengthened this man, whom you see and know. This faith that comes through Jesus has given him this perfect health in the presence of all of you. (Ac 3:16)
So then, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message comes through the word of Christ. (Ro 10:17)
Jesus said to him, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.” (Jn 14:6)
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he gave us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 into an inheritance that is undying, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. 5 Through faith you are being protected by God’s power for the salvation that is ready to be revealed at the end of time. (1 Pe 1:3–5)

Points to Ponder

  1. What is one thing that stood out to you from this week's message?

  2. What do you think it means to be an exile, in a biblical context?

  3. Do you ever feel like an exile in the world around you?

  4. How can we still do good as exiles?

  5. Peter tells his readers to live their lives with the acute awareness that your Father is an impartial judge and then tells them to do this because they’ve been freed from a sinful way of life by “the precious blood of Christ.” What does that truth mean practically for your life.
