The Book of Acts

The Book of Acts: Paul's First Missionary Journey Part 2  (Week 18)

1.    The call.

2.    The first mission stop was Salamis.

3.    A confrontation with a false prophet.

4.    At Pisidian Antioch a clear peaching of _________ and _________ gets them runout of the ____________.

21 "Then the people asked for a king, and God gave them Saul, son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. 22 After removing him, he raised up David as their king. God testified about him: 'I have found David the son of Jesse to be a man after my own heart. He will do all that I want him to do.' 23 "From this man's descendants God brought the Savior Jesus to Israel, in keeping with his promise. (Ac 13:21–23)
But now your kingship will not continue. The Lord has sought for himself a man after his own heart, and the Lord has appointed him to be ruler over his people, because you have not obeyed the command the Lord gave you. (1 Sa 13:14)
20 I found David my servant. With my holy oil I have anointed him. ...  29 I will establish his seed forever. His throne will endure like the days of the heavens. (Ps 89:20, 29)
A shoot will spring up from the stump of Jesse, and a Branch from his roots will bear fruit. (Is 11:1)
This is to continue until we all reach unity in the faith and knowledge of the Son of God, resulting in a mature man with a stature reaching to the measure of the fullness of Christ. (Eph 4:13)
24 Before he appeared publicly, John had preached a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. 25 As John was finishing his course, he said, 'Who do you suppose I am? I am not that One. But look! That One is coming after me, and I am not worthy to untie the sandals on his feet.' (Ac 13:24–25)
5 Look! I am going to send Elijah the prophet to you before the great and fearful day of the Lord comes! 6 He will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers. Otherwise, I will come and strike the land with complete destruction. (Mal 4:5–6)
Gentlemen, brothers, sons of Abraham's family, and those among you who fear God, this message of salvation has been sent to you. (Ac 13:26)
27 The people of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize him, and by condemning him they fulfilled the statements of the prophets that are read every Sabbath. 28 Though they found no grounds for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him executed. 29 When they carried out everything that was written about him, they took him down from the cross and laid him in a tomb. (Ac 13:27–29)
Remember that you were slaves in the land of Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out from there with a strong hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the day of rest. (Dt 5:15)
30 But God raised him from the dead, 31 and for many days he was seen by those who had come up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem. These same individuals are now his witnesses to the people. 32 "We are preaching to you the good news about the promise that was made to our fathers. (Ac 13:30–32)
And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. (1 Co 15:17)
God has fulfilled this promise for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is also written in the second Psalm: You are my Son. Today I have begotten you. (Ac 13:33)
The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. (Lk 1:35)
And a voice came from heaven: 'You are my Son, whom I love. I am well pleased with you.' (Lk 3:22b)
Then a voice came out of the cloud, saying, 'This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!' (Lk 9:35)
'Father, glorify your name!' A voice came from heaven: 'I have glorified my name, and I will glorify it again.' (Jn 12:28)
3 This gospel is about his Son—who in the flesh was born a descendant of David, 4 who in the spirit of holiness was declared to be God's powerful Son by his resurrection from the dead—Jesus Christ, our Lord. (Ro 1:3–4)
That God would raise him from the dead never again to be subject to decay, God said in this way: I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David. (Ac 13:34)
Therefore he also says in another place: You will not let your Holy One see decay. (Ac 13:35)
36 For David, after he had served God's purpose in his own generation, fell asleep, was laid to rest with his fathers, and saw decay. 37 But the One God raised did not see decay. (Ac 13:36–37)
